Insurance + Funding Guide
Insurance + Funding Guide
There are many ways to get a Cubby Bed. The majority are covered by insurance, but other funding options are also available. Click on an option below or read on to learn more.
Families in All 50 States Trust Cubby for Better Sleep + Safety
Insurance + Medicaid
Although a Cubby Bed has many benefits for sleep, anxiety, and sensory regulation, insurance will typically only reimburse a pediatric safety bed for significant safety concerns such as seizures, fall risk, elopement, self injury, entrapment or other well documented behaviors that could cause injury. If your loved one may qualify, here are the steps:
1) Schedule a visit with your doctor
The purpose of this visit will be to get a prescription for a Cubby Bed. Focus on your kiddo's safety concerns during the appointment and clearly communicate why a Cubby Bed is medically necessary for your loved one.
2) Access the Prescription Template ahead of your visit
We've prepared a prescription template to make things easier for you and your healthcare provider. Print it out and bring it to your appointment or email it to your doctor.

3) Document safety concerns + get a prescription
Obtain a prescription from your doctor (the prescription should be for a "Cubby Safety Bed") and make sure your doctor documents the safety concerns and need for a Cubby Bed in your kiddo's medical notes.
A Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) is a letter written by healthcare professionals like your doctor, OT, PT, etc. These letters explain your kiddo's specific needs and why a Cubby Bed is medically necessary.
VIEW LMN INFO, GUIDES + TEMPLATES
In your LMN, be sure to provide specific and detailed information about your kiddo's safety concerns, requirements, and how the Cubby Bed can help.
If you or someone else wrote the LMN, make sure the healthcare provider who prescribed the Cubby Bed signs it as well, showing their agreement with the necessity of this solution.
Remember, quality matters more than quantity when it comes to LMNs. Focus on getting a detailed and informative letter and make sure that safety risks are defined and less costly alternatives are ruled out. The most common denial reason in documentation is that it is not detailed enough.
Once you have your LMN, we offer a special service where a member of the Cubby Care Team can review your LMN and provide suggestions if needed. They will carefully assess the content, ensuring it effectively captures your kiddo's specific needs and expresses how a Cubby Bed can address them. A team member will then reach out to provide personalized suggestions and recommendations to you. This service is completely optional, but it can be accessed here.
Durable Medical Equipment Suppliers (DMEs) specialize in medical equipment and play a vital role in insurance claims. While we are the creators and manufacturers of the Cubby Bed, the DME is who will order your bed from us, streamline the insurance process, and handle the paperwork for you, increasing your chances of coverage. They will deal directly with your insurance company to get the Cubby Bed approved according to your coverage benefits. Here's how to get started:
1) To connect with a reliable DME, use our Supplier Locator Map. If you can't find one in your area, reach out to Hello@CubbyBeds.com and we'll help.
2) When you first talk to a DME, it's important to tell them you would like a Cubby Bed and have gathered the necessary documents for insurance coverage.
Here are some things you should provide:
- Your prescription for a Cubby Bed
- Your Letter of Medical Necessity
- Your insurance information
- Your contact info
By providing this information, the DME can quickly begin the process for you.
3) Regularly reach out to your DME to check if they have obtained a quote for your bed from us.
4) To ensure a smooth process and assist you better, we kindly ask that you provide us with the quote number for your Cubby Bed once you receive it from your DME. This important step will not only ensure continued communication with your DME, but also help prevent any potential delays. It is also valuable information for tracking your order and addressing any questions you may have regarding Cubby Beds.
You can provide us with your DME quote number using this form.
Once your DME has everything that is required, they will submit your insurance claim and deal directly with your insurance company to get your Cubby Bed approved according to your coverage benefits. Depending on your insurance provider, location, and specific situation, the approval process can take some time. Be sure to follow up regularly on the status of your claim.
It's very common to get a denial on first submission. If this happens to you, don't worry, you're not alone! Many families have successfully appealed and won.
Here's what you can do to initiate the appeal process:
1) Review our comprehensive Guide on Appeals and Denials. It provides valuable information and strategies, including our LMN Checklist + Denial Reasons guide.
2) Our Cubby Care Team is ready to assist you if you'd like us to review your documents and provide recommendations.

Medicaid Waivers
Waivers and State Grants provide financial assistance to individuals with specific medical or developmental needs. They are designed to help families like yours access necessary medical equipment, including the Cubby Bed. They are run by individual States, so eligibility requirements and programs may vary.
Talk to your case manager about the benefits of a Cubby Bed to see if it would be covered. The funding pathway is different for every waiver, so talk to your case manager about the process.
You or your case manager can contact us with questions at any time. Simply email Hello@CubbyBeds.com. We'd be happy to help!
If you're not covered, these are excellent programs to provide financial resources for your loved one. Typically, your child qualifies solely based on their income, which means most children with disabilities will qualify.
Please keep in mind that waiver programs may have limited funding and/or waiting lists. It's important to start the process as soon as possible to maximize your chances of securing funding for your Cubby Bed.
